UEFA Champions League 2019/2020 Draw, Awards - Van Dijk Wins UEFA Player Of The Year Award

It's all about Liverpool's Van Dijk Juventus Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona's Lionel Messi today as UEFA dishes out some accolade to the 'best in best' in football and also to unwrap clubs anxieties as they know their fate on who they will face in 2019/2020 Champions League group stages.

A little bit of fuss as Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi arrived the arena on a private helicopter and boy, he is looking great. If our fathers (especially my father) was told that football can make you a fortune like this, he wouldn't have restricted me from playing football. Everytime read your books read your books, how far now? SMH!

Anyway, Lionel Messi's 12 goals and 3 assists in last season Champions League campaign has earned him another wonderful accolade as UEFA named him the best forward in the 2018-19 Champions League.

Liverpool's Brazilian stopper, Alisson Becker has been named UEFA's Best Goalkeeper of the 2018/19 season for his contributions last seaaon.

Alisson kept six clean sheets in his first ever Champions League including one in the final as they beat Premier League rivals Tottenham 2-0 in Madrid. Unfortunately,  he is currently sidelined with a calf injury. He beat Tottenham's Hugo Lloris and Barcelona's Marc Andre ter Stegen to the award.

Liverpool defender and man of the moment, Van Dijk beat Lionel Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo to UEFA Men's Player Of The Year (POTY) award after an undoubtedly glorious year at Liverpool.

The Dutchman, 28 was a key to Liverpool's triumph in their sixth European Cup, and was named man of the match following his unique performance in the finals in Madrid. He also scored vital goals on the way to the final, using his impeccable height and presence at both ends.

When the host, Reshmin Chowdhury asked VVD how he feels to be alongside Messi and Ronaldo at the UEFA Player of the Year award, Van Dijk said:

“I feel alright. I am very proud to be here, obviously with these two guys (Messi and Ronaldo) they have done pretty well for the last fifteen years and I am very proud to be here with them.”

“I’m very proud to get this trophy. It’s credit to everyone who has helped me. “I need to thank my team-mates, without them, I would not have achieved what I have achieved. It’s been a long road and it’s part of my journey.”

Though Liverpool won the 2018/2019 Champions League, but I'm quiet surprised as UEFA gave Virgil Van Dijk (VVD) the UEFA highest honor. I understand FIFA had to give it to Italian Canavaro that year but their wasn't a mercyless Messi and a ruthless Ronaldo.. Lol

Alright, enough of insinuations and award winning, below is is the UEFA Champions League 2019/2020 group stage draw...
