Nnamdi Kalu, Apostle Suleman, Falana, Others Reacts To Suspension Of RUGA Settlement Proposed By FG

The "EVIL" (RUGA Settlement) which is what social media have termed it,  that was poised to plunge Nigeria into chaos have somehow been averted, though people are still skeptical: asking why it should be suspended instead of total cancellation.

Ruga, after its introduction and proposed implementation, which have met a brick wall, president Muhammadu Buhari have decided to suspend the plan till further notice. The FG announced the suspension of the planned Ruga settlement project in the early hours of today.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s New Media aide, Bashir Ahmad confirmed the suspension on his verified Twitter handle.

He tweeted, “The Federal Government after consultations with stakeholders has suspended the RUGA Settlement Project, for now, Kebbi State Governor disclosed that after a meeting with Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.”

Undoubtedly, this move have also drawn so many reactions from prominent Nigerians.

We will however consider the reactions of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Benue State governor, Ortom, human right activist, Femi Falana  and that of Apostle Suleman of Omega Fire Ministries.

Nnamdi Kanu wrote:

As Jubril/the Cabal bows to pressure and SUSPEND implementation of their #RUGA, let me salute #IPOB worldwide which took a principled stand and fired the FIRST salvo against this evident Fulanization agenda. Better yet, RUGA or not, a #referendum on Biafra restoration is NEXT.

Apostle Suleman wrote:

God bless the Federal Government for this decision to suspend RUGA...I hope they not only suspend but bury the idea.. God bless you..

Benue State Governor, Ortom reactions via his Press Secretary Terver Akase..

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary Terver Akase, stated that the rejection of the Ruga settlement model was not personal but rather a struggle by Nigerians against impunity and injustice. He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for heeding to the call of Nigerians.

He said the decision to suspend the proposal shows that Buhari has heard the voices of majority of Nigerians on the matter. He stated that truth has prevailed on the issue, quoting John 8: 32 “you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” The governor then urged the federal government to take a step further to encourage pastoralists and other livestock owners to embrace ranching as the best model of animal husbandry.

Finally,  humam right activist and Lagos lawyer, Femi Falana have also reacted to the suspension and also believe that RUGA was quickly introduced out of nowhere by some colonist in Buhari's government. He also admired while speaking to Vanguard that this should not only be suspended,  but cancelled totally.

He however advised the FG as follow..

“As far back as 2016 the Buhari administration had opted for ranching. “To actualise the ranching policy 11 states had made available 55,000 hectares of land. “Ranching has also been adopted by the National Livestock Policy of the Buhari administration.

“What is now left is for the immediate implementation of the ranching programme,” Falana said in a statement.

“Ruga should not just be suspended but cancelled completely by the federal government. It should be replaced with ranching funded by state governments and individual stakeholders with the assistance of the federal government.

“However if the federal government is interested in establishing ranches in the states, it should apply for building approval from the state governments because the supreme court has held that physical planning is not in the exclusive legislative list.”
