AFCON 2019 - Algeria Beat Senegal 1-0 To Win African Cup Of Nation

Don't mean to boast but eliminating a great footballing country like Nigeria has its benefits and since Algeria was able to do that, they have now been crowned the champions of Africa after going on to beat Senegal with a lone deflected goal just 2 mins in the match.

This is the second time the Algerians won the Africa Cup of Nations in over 20 years and with an unbelievable deflected goal which no one thought it will be going inside the back of the net. Baghdad Bounedjah's shot took a huge deflection off Salif Sane and looped over goalkeeper Alfred Gomes.

Video Assistant Referee (VAR) played another deafening roll again today as Senegal, who have never won the competition, were awarded a penalty for handball in the second half but it was overturned after a VAR review. I think one of the good things about football is "Ojoro" and with VAR, football can never be what it used to be.

It was all well and good for Manchester City's Rayed Mahrez, but Liverpool forward Sadio Mane, who said before the game he would swap his Champions League winners medal for Africa Cup of Nations success, looked disconsolate as Algeria players celebrated around him.
