Breaking News: Senate Rejects Ibrahim Magu's Confirmation As EFCC Chairman Again

The senate have again rejected the confirmation of the Acting Chairman of EFCC Ibrahim Magu. The majority voted against his confirmation and the senate therefore rejected it.

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission EFCC appeared today in the senate for his confirmation. The confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as the EFCC Chairman hit a deadlock the last time he appeared before the senate following a conflicting reports leveled against him.

Today, his confirmation by the National Assembly of Nigeria have attracted the attention of the international community who vowed to send representatives to observe the proceedings. The confirmation is ongoing right now and is live on NTA.

Ibrahim Magu has however accused the DSS of not being competent in discharging their duties. Ibrahim Magu says two conflicting reports were submitted in one day about him and that questions the integrity of the DSS as well. #confirmationHearing.
On his conformation, senate spokes man said and I quote:

“The Senate wish to inform the public that based on available security report, the Senate cannot proceed with confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The Senate rejected Magu's nomination following a letter by the Department of State Services (DSS) which upheld an earlier letter that Magu failed the integrity test and was unfit for the office. The DSS letter which was sent to the Senate on Wednesday stressed that Mr Magu would constitute “a liability to the anti-corruption fight of the present administration”.

See the letter below..

However, the Senate confirmed the nomination of the other 4 members of the EFCC and referred them for further security screening. The plans to screen the acting chairman of EFCC had earlier caused confusion today, December 15, at the Nigerian Senate.

According to The Punch, the usual pre-session meeting of the principal officers, which holds at the Senate President’s office, was rowdy as senators were said to have engaged themselves in a shouting match. A source who witnessed the clash said the Leader of the Senate, Senator Ali Ndume and Senator Dino Melaye, who was alleged to be against Magu’s confirmation, specifically engaged themselves at the meeting.
