Ayo Fayose Blasts FG Over Alleged Plans To Hold Dasuki’s Trial In Secret

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose has kicked against the alleged plan to hold the trial of the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki in secret. Dasuki has been on trial for allegedly misappropriating funds meant for the purchase of arms for the military to wage war against Boko Haram.

According to Punch News, Fayose called on the Federal Government to let Nigerians watch Dasuki’s trial on national television. The Ekiti state Governor also said if the trial of the NSA is televised, Nigerians will know how he spent the money meant for purchase of weapons.

Fayose said the plan to bring in a witness with a hood shows the government has a hidden agaenda. He also said “Since the names of the would-be prosecution witnesses have already been made public, what agenda is the Federal Government pursuing by insisting that its witnesses be given protection by the court by not allowing their names and addresses to be made public in the course of the trial.

“You accused someone of corruption in the market place and the person you accused is saying he wants to defend himself in the market place too, but you, the complainant, is insisting that the accused person must be tried in your bedroom, I think someone is trying to hide something?”

Adding that “They want Nnamdi Kanu tried secretly. They also want the former Col. Dasuki (retd.) tried secretly. What are they afraid of? How is the defence counsel going to cross-examine masked witnesses when their real identities cannot be ascertained? Why are the witnesses afraid to testify in an open court if truly they are witnesses of truth?

“Obviously, this is satanic. It is against all democratic norms and Nigerians must rise against it.” Reports say some Nigerians have warned the Ekiti state Governor not to join the Enough Is Enough protest reportedly sponsored by 2Face.

Editor's Note:

What is it about secret trial all of a sudden in Buhari's regime? Is this because he doesn't have the power to convene a military court to try Dasuki so that he can ask them to convict him with or without evidence? Why is the present government wanting to adapt the military kangaroo court that is by law outlawed in democratic rules?

Am i the only one reading between the lines? Even at that, you want to bring in witness with his face covered. Ah ah
